Vietnamese Animal Names: Pets, Farm Animals, and Wildlife
A dog is con chó. A cat is con mèo. Tâm asks Bạn có nuôi con gì? (Do you have any pets?). In Trọng Trí's house the dog Cherry answers gâu gâu. The names and sentences from those videos are below, so the lesson already makes sense when you hit play.
Tâm's Animals series starts with pets at home, then farm animals, then wildlife. Trọng Trí plays a guessing game with Cherry the dog, then finds a crying baby bird (chim non). Tâm also walks Saigon Zoo (Thảo Cầm Viên). Ngọc's later series is Animal World.

Farm animals: Nhà tui có nuôi một con heo
Tâm asks the same pet question, now about the farm: Nhà tui có nuôi một con… (we keep a…). Her list is gà (chicken), vịt (duck), bò (cow), heo (pig), and dê (goat).
Gà- Chicken. A rooster is gà trống. It crows (gáy) ò ó o every morning, and it gives trứng (eggs) and thịt (meat).
Vịt- Duck. A farm owner in her skit has một đàn vịt (a flock of ducks) that swim the pond and come home at dusk.
Bò- Cow. It helps kéo xe chở lúa (pull a cart of rice). It gives sữa (milk) and thịt (meat).
Heo- Pig. Tâm says heo. It gives thịt (meat). Nhà tui có nuôi một con heo (we keep a pig).
Dê- Goat. In the farm-owner skit it climbs rocks to eat the youngest leaves.

Trọng Trí's Fun Animal Guessing Game is a family round with Ngân. They name the animal, then ask con chó kêu làm sao? (what sound does it make?). Cherry the dog is in the room. On camera they confirm gâu gâu (woof) and meo meo (meow).

A baby bird: chim non
Trọng Trí finds a crying baby bird (con chim non). Cái tổ ở đâu? (where's the nest?) Chim mẹ ở đâu? (where's the mother?). Someone offers bánh (bread). Không được (no). Someone offers sữa (milk). Không được. It eats worms (ăn sâu) and drinks water (uống nước).
Con chim non- Baby bird. He keeps repeating it until dad (ba) agrees: đúng rồi, con chim non (that's right, it's a baby bird).
Cái tổ / Chim mẹ- The nest / mother bird. Cái tổ ở đâu? (where's the nest?) Chim mẹ ở đâu? (where's the mother?).
Ăn sâu- Eat worms. Bread is không được (no). Ăn sâu. Con sâu (the worm).

Saigon Zoo, part 1: Thảo Cầm Viên
Tâm opens the map of Thảo Cầm Viên, the Saigon Zoo: tê giác (rhino), hươu cao cổ (giraffe), linh dương (antelope), đà điểu (ostrich), cọp (tiger), sư tử (lion), cá sấu (crocodile). One tiger is named Bò sữa (Dairy Cow) because it looks like one. A darker striped tiger (hổ vằn) stands next door.
Linh dương sừng kiếm- Oryx. Black on the face, and the horns are long like swords.

- Tiger. This one is nicknamed Bò sữa (Dairy Cow). Tâm asks why, then guesses it looks like a dairy cow.
Báo hoa mai- Leopard. Pale yellow coat, black spots like mai blossoms, so people also say báo đốm hoa mai.
Cá sấu- Crocodile. It is so still Tâm wonders if it is sleeping, or fake.
Tê giác trắng- White rhino. This one is named Thị Bo. Two horns; the front one is a mét rưỡi (a meter and a half), as tall as Tâm.
Ngựa lùn- Pony. Dad (ba) is Văn Mai, mom (mẹ) is Thị Mai, and the baby is Vú Sữa.
Cầy mực- A black civet, named like ink (mực). Pregnancy is only three months. The babies are Tôm, Cá, and Tép (shrimp, fish, and tiny shrimp).
Nhím- Porcupine. Stiff quills, and it eats soft fruit.
Saigon Zoo, part 2: Thảo Cầm Viên
Tâm hopes she is lucky enough to see a peacock fan its tail (xòe lông). She asks you to tell nai from hươu (two kinds of deer), stands next to a sleeping python (trăn gấm), then gets lost in the maze (mê cung) for twenty minutes before she finds the way out (lối ra).

Nai- A kind of deer. She takes you to the enclosure and asks how nai and hươu differ.

Trăn gấm- Python. It is asleep, and Tâm is standing very close.
Rồng đất- A lizard. It lays eggs in the sand, then covers them.
Kỳ nhông xanh- Green iguana. A row of spikes down the back, and a crest at the neck. Tâm is right next to it.
Trứng, sâu, nhộng, bướm- Butterfly life: trứng bướm (eggs), then sâu / ấu trùng (caterpillar), then nhộng / kén (chrysalis), then a grown bướm (butterfly) leaves the kén.
Chuột lang nước- Capybara. Tâm also says the English name. One is lying around looking lười biếng (lazy); nearby there are capybara mini.
Rái cá- Otter. They live at ponds and lakes, and they eat cá (fish) and cua (crab).
Meerkat- Meerkat. Tâm says they live mainly in the desert, in Nam Phi (South Africa).
Mê cung- Maze. Lots of ngã rẽ (turns), then a ngõ cụt (dead end). Twenty minutes later: lối ra ở đây rồi (the way out is here).
